The Modern Stunt kite
Defined Tag: Stunt Kite.
A stunt kite is a joy to behold. These are the types of kites that do all those cool and fun dips and spins. They are also the type of kites that a more experienced kite flyer enjoys using the most because a stunt kite requires a little bit of skill in order to fly; and this gives some insight into the kite flyer himself.
The most popular type of stunt kite is the Prism. These kites are triangular and look similar to a hand glider. They generally are not “one string” kites, but instead contain four, five, or even six string attachments. Additionally, the control stick will attach to strings at multiple points. It may also include several buttons or “triggers,” which will pull the strings in a certain way to affect tricks.
One of the problems with the stunt kite, however, is that it is fairly easy to destroy. If you're new to using stunt models, you may find that strings tangle easily and that your kite may crash fairly often, as it isn't simply riding on an air current; it is being pulled in and out of a stable current.
One of the best ways to circumvent this stunt kite problems is by purchasing a “beginner” stunt. These aren't quite as simple as normal kite models. They still have a triangular shape and allow you to perform stunts, but you are usually limited to amateur-grade materials and two or three strings. However, this does make your kite significantly cheaper – usually in the order of $50 to $60, rather than $100 to $500, as is charged for more expensive models with carbon and fiberglass frames.
Once you have spent more time working on your kite hobby, you can purchase an expensive model, such as a “ballet kite.” These kites allow you to maneuver more deftly, but they also come with a hefty price tag. A ballet stunt kite could cost you anywhere between $275 and $500.
