The Classic Prism Kite

Defined Tag:

Everybody loved having a kite as a kid. A kit is the quintessential kid’s toy. This could be because it combines the wonder of a simple wood and plastic toy with the beauty of the skies that makes for an intriguing mix. Sometimes the simplest things are the most effective. In the world of kid’s toys, this is many times the case.

And it is not just kids who enjoy kites. One can see many adults on the beach or in a park flying a kite. Perhaps it is a bond they formed with their favorite toy and possibly that toy remains a way to hold on to their childhood memories. Maybe they cultivated a love when they were kids and that love stayed with them their whole lives.

Now, when that love matures, it may require the presence of a more sophisticated kite. One such kite is the prism kite. The prism kite is wildly aerodynamic and a lot of fun. It looks almost like a mini hang glider (sans pilot) that handles incredibly well in the wind.

In fact, in rough wind, the prism kite shines. It can make tons of dips, twists and spins that are truly a site to behold. Prism currently offers five different categories of kite: beginner, stunt, freestyle, indoor, parafoil, and “single line.”

A beginner prism kite usually runs around $55 and has no extra frills. The stunt kite is generally larger and has a more complex structure, including additional attachments and strings. The freestyle prism is designed for unplanned stunts. The “parafoil” model is a rectangular (rather than triangular) kite with multiple attachments. The last type of prism kite offers is the “single line”; this model usually comes in the form of a triad box with three closed sides and one open side. This is considerably different than both the parafoil and glider models.
