When one thinks of art, what normally comes to mind? Painting? Sculptures? Gothic cathedrals? Yes, there are a multitude of art forms. Each has its own beauty and its own fans.
Photography is a very under-appreciated form of art. When one thinks of photography, one usually thinks of photojournalism or magazine photography. And, while they do take tons of skill, they are really not a form of photo art.
And, like there are many different kinds of art, they are many different subcategories to photo art. Photo art can take many forms. One such form is aerial photography.
Aerial photography can be a beautiful thing. One fairly new form of aerial photography is kite aerial photography. Not much has been written about it so it remains an understudied art.
Kite Aerial photography is the skill of mounting a camera to a kite and sending that kite high up into the air. From there, the camera snaps pictures at the world below. Now, the photos that are taken are not merely haphazard snapshots taken by an errant camera. There is a style and grace present that is impossible to duplicate. More than just mere photos from high above, the photos can be an insight into our world that we ourselves may not have noticed before.
When the camera of kite aerial photography snaps its pictures, it capturing a glimpse into our world that would not be seen in any other manner. Now, when art captures a unique point of view, it is capable of presenting a unique insight.
Taking photos for kite aerial photography is generally done in two different ways. One way is to use a remote which allows you to trigger the camera from a hundred yards away. Another technique is to pre-program the camera to take pictures before the kite lifts off. The latter is used more often; however, it is tough to time photos accurately, especially when you are using small, simple pen cameras, which are usually employed in kite aerial photography.
